    Shells are one of the habitats the first graders in my class study. We read fictional stories about hermit crabs and non-fiction books about many kinds of animals that live in shells. Along with "Moving Day" by Robert Kaplan and "A House For Hermit Crab" by Eric Carle, I read this book. My students love the predictability of the hermit crab's /5. After reading one of our favorite classic Eric Carle books, A House for Hermit Crab, the kids were eager to create a hermit crab craft. I'm a sucker for their cut little handprints, so we decided to make a handprint hermit crab craft. A House for Hermit Crab is about a little hermit crab who must find a new home and discovers new friends and possibilities in the process.

    Hermit Crab has outgrown his shell. When he moves into a new bigger one, he realizes that it is very plain. He enlists the help of other sea creatures to help him decorate his new home.
